Zenkoubou (studio), Tokoname

Sensei Yuichi Hirano's studio is located just off the pottery path in Tokoname.

While Tokoname is changing and new potters are constantly emerging, submitting to gas or electric kilns, Sensei Hirano remains pure. He still fires using an anagama (a single chambered wood burning kiln). Often firing the same piece multiple times to obtain the desired effect.

We found sensei working in his small dark studio with no fancy showroom, yet his studio is filled with amazing pots which some are works in progress.

Sensei Hirano does workshops and lectures internationally.
